Coimbatore invites new host for this winter

Gajamohanraj and Sharang visited Ukkadam lake on 1st September 2019 in order to look for migratory waterbirds. They share their experience with CNS.
"We were happy to find usual migrants like sandpipers and plovers in good numbers. At 8:30 a.m. we saw three gulls flying overhead, and we immediately took some photos."
"We were surprised to find that these were Slender-billed gulls, a migrant gull species that is found in the coastal regions of India. We soon realized that this is probably the first sighting in inland Tamil Nadu, and also the first sighting in Coimbatore. We assume that these birds may have been heading towards Kerala, and might have stopped over in Coimbatore due to the bad weather in their path."

"After a few hours, we headed to Perur lake and to our pleasant surprise the same three birds were flying around there as well. They did a few rounds around the lake, and then eventually flew out of sight."
